Box Office Preview: 'Valor' to SEAL the deal (omg!)
LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Relativity Media's "Act of Valor," which stars actual Navy SEALs and features other Naval personnel in its cast, should blast its way to the top of the domestic box office chart this weekend with an opening gross in the low $20 millions.
The film, which uses real ammo in combat sequences, will no doubt have strong appeal in the heartland and should resonate with male audiences as well as action fans.
"Tyler Perry's Good Deeds" from Lionsgate should add yet another hit to Perry's box office track record with a debut in the high teens. Perry directs and stars as a businessman whose life is changed when he meets a single mother working on the cleaning crew in his office building.
Universal's "Safe House" shot its way to the top of the box office chart over President's weekend after debuting a week earlier in second place. The Denzel Washington action drama dominated the mid-week numbers and should place in the low teens on its third weekend out.
Also heading for low-teen, third-weekend grosses are Sony's romantic drama "The Vow" and Warner Bros' Rock-solid "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island."
Universal's R-rated comedy "Wanderlust," starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, and Summit Entertainment's thriller "Gone," starring Amanda Seyfried, are both expected to kick off their theatrical runs with sub $10 million debuts this weekend.
