Summer Slimming Secrets to Whittle Your Middle | l ? l Bajan Sun ...
In the last issue of US Weekly they did an article on ?Foods That Whittle Your Middle.? I came across the magazine and wanted to share the tips of this article with you. Summer is here for most of us, weather wise, and it is important to know how to fuel your body and eat healthy for some positive results.
I also included a video from Us Weekly that asked The Biggest Loser trainer ? Bob Harper ? and author of the new diet book The Skinny Rules (out now) ? for his top five tips to slim down just in time to hit the beach.
Grapefruit:??Filled with water & fiber. Eating half a grapefruit with meals promotes weight loss. Researchers speculate that the chemical properties of grapefruit reduce insulin levels and encourage weight loss.
Spinach:? It is only seven calories a cup uncooked and included a ton of folate which in turns lowers your stress hormones. It is those stress hormones that make you gain weight in your middle section. Have it in a salad, or even include it in a smoothie or juice.
Eggs [ cage free ]:?Containing B12, which is an energizing vitamin that helps boost the metabolism & burn fat. Protein also keeps you full.
Chili Pepper/Flakes:?Increases metabolism which in turn increases calorie burning. Add it to hummus, salsa, chicken, pizza, cottage cheese or soups. Such a tasty spice.
Dark Chocolate:?the perfect dessert in moderation & a healthy fat [ other healthy fats: avocado, olive oil, nuts, & olives ] Dark chocolate rates low on the glycemic index, which means it breaks down slowly in the digestive tract. Low glycemic foods promote feelings of fullness and suppress appetite.
Greek yogurt:?High calcium and protein content. Plain Greek yogurt is also very low in carbohydrates, making it diabetic-friendly. A study published in the International Journal of Obesity showed that dieters on a high-calcium yogurt lost 81% more belly fat than dieters on a low-calcium diet.
Berries:?Low calorie food that are rich in nutrients and full of fiber to help you feel full.
Pineapple:?High in vitamin C, aids digestion and helps prevent inflammation and swelling. Eating this fruit can also help eliminate bloat.
1. Hydration, hydration, hydration?- This is number one according to Bob and he wants you to stay hydrated all day. Bob says that once you wake up, the first thing you need to do is have a tall glass of water. It will get your digestion going and your metabolism revved up. Then, throughout the day, before each time you eat, down another tall glass of water. It will help slow down your eating and keep you from overeating.
2. Protein?- Make sure you have protein at every meal. Morning, noon and night. It will keep you fuller longer.
3. Don?t drink your calories?- ?Some of those coffee drinks can be upwards of 500 to 600 calories. Not to mention, be careful at happy hour. A margarita can also be in that same calorie range. Bob says, ?Eat your calories, don?t ever drink your calories!?
4. Know your stuff?- It is important that you start measuring your food, and know what you are consuming by reading all the nutrition facts of everything you are putting in your body. There is so much processed foods out there, we don?t even know anymore what we are putting in our bodies. Most important things you need to know when reading nutrition facts:
- Serving size
- Fat
- Calories
5. Splurge meal?- After being so good all week, Bob thinks it is important that you have a splurge meal and enjoy all that you have been missing with all of your hard work dieting. Do this every week and it is very important that you know it is one meal, not a whole day.
