A subsequent investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that the fall occurred because the employer failed to put basic safety measures in place. The company was fined ?6,000 and ordered to pay costs of more than ?4,000.

Simple measures could have prevented the fall

Commenting on the work injury, HSE inspector Ian Whittles suggested that simple measures could have prevented it. He added: ?It is vital that employers provide the right equipment for their staff to do their job safely when working at height.?

He went on to note that the individual involved in the fall experienced considerable pain because of the incident.
