For those who missed the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by fault of time, distance or money, here are some upcoming comedy festivals to catch in the next few months. Reading Comedy Festival There are many household names appearing here, such as Alan Davies, best known for his title role in 'Jonathan Creek' and for featuring in the Abbey National bank adverts. His previous shows have been conversational and inoffensive, which will appeal to those whose dislike shock-based humour. For those who do, and seriously do, Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson will also be appearing. Wilson is an Aussie with a particularly non-pc sense of humor whose stand-up consists of musical numbers on his guitar on some relatively toboo subjects and delivered with a particular fondness for the c-word. This event is taking place between October 3rd and November 4th. Southport Comedy Festival. No big headliners for this event, which features less well-known and more local comedians. Pete Antoniou will be appearing in his unusual act as a 'comedium'- combining the disciplines of mind-reading and comedy. There is also a New Comedian of the Year competition which is sure to draw some fresh talent from around the country. Tickets are very affordable for this event and are retailing for ?3, so you could find yourself discovering the next big thing in comedy for the same price as a pint. This festival will be running from 19th- 28th of October. Cheltenham Comedy Festival Headliners galore here, including Julian Clary and Frankie Boyle who are all appearing in the Cheltenham town hall. The multi-talented actor, comedian and writer Alexi Sayle will be appearing with his first standup show in 16 years which is definitely not one to be missed. Alexi's brand of black humour is thoughtful and thorough -at least, it was in the 90's, so who knows what roads the comedian has taken since then. This festival will be running from the 12th to the 17th of November. Brighton Comedy Festival This festival looks set to be bigger than the others, as it has a bigger and more well-known line-up. It is sponsored by cable TV channel Dave, which may mean that the events will be broadcast on their channel- and seeing the line-up you'll wish that they were. Alexi will be at this event too, along with Dara OBrian, Andrew Lawrence, Fred MacAulay and Greg Davies and a whole host of comedy heavyweights. This festival will be running from the 5th to the 20th of October.
