Black List and Writers Guild of America, East partnership | Go Into ...

About three weeks ago, I posted this:

It?s the question behind all questions from aspiring screenwriters, the subtext behind almost every conversation about the business: ?How do I get my script in front of Hollywood reps and buyers??

Here is an answer.

Franklin Leonard and the Black List have launched a service that gives writers immediate access to over 1000 Hollywood professionals.

Your script. Their eyeballs. From anywhere in the world.

Here is an important update:

The Black List, which produces an annual list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, has formed a partnership with the Writers Guild of America, East.

The partnership will allow guild members to receive a 20% discount to host their work on the new Black List subscription site.? Additionally, WGAE and the Black List will launch an online initiative to publicize Guild agreements and services and Guild representatives will contribute to the site?s blog: http://gointothestory.blcklst.com/.

?The Black List makes it possible for screenwriters to get their work read and considered by people in the industry,? Lowell Peterson, WGAE executive director, said in a statement.

?We are proud to support this extension of The Black List concept,? Peterson said. ?Screenwriters will get solid evaluations of their work and broader access to decision-makers.? At the same time, we will continue to get the word out about the Guild?s central role in representing writers.?

Two things. First the fact that this branch of the WGA is partnered with the Black List, specifically in relation to this new initiative to create more and greater access for screenwriters to Hollywood buyers is huge as it speaks to the professional nature of the endeavor. In other words, if the WGA sanctions this Black List service, that should give writers a major boost in confidence in submitting scripts to it.

Second in the nearly 5 years I?ve been hosting this blog, I have tried to do everything I could to present professional writers in their own words on these pages. Working screenwriters are primary sources, people who can speak about the craft from a unique vantage point: the front lines of the business. Hence the various GITS series such as Screenwriting 101, Interviews [Audio, Video, Written], and Q&A.

This partnership between the Black List and the WGAE offers the potential to expand that part of what we do here in a significant way.

Here?s the deal: No one knows screenwriting better than the men and women who actually do it for a living day in and day out. My hope is writers who are members of the WGAE will want to use GITS as a forum to present everything from tips to techniques, anecdotes to opinions about the craft.

Look for news on that in the near future.
