University of Denver's Sturm College of Law gets $2.25M gift ...
.
The University of Denver Sturm College of Law has received a gift of $2.25 million that will be applied to the school?s experiential learning program, designed to give its students practical, hands-on experience as they prepare for legal careers.
The gift comes from Sturm alumni James Mulligan (1974 graduate) and Joan Burleson (1985), and it will endow the Mulligan Burleson Chair in Modern Learning.
In addition, alumnus and trustee Doug Scrivner (1977) and his wife, Mary, donated $250,000 to the project.
Professor Roberto Corrada was named to the new chair, and will work with the school?s Modern Learning Committee, comprised of leaders in its clinical, externship and legal writing programs, as well as full-time and adjunct faculty.
The school says Corrada has been a leader in experiential law for years in teaching labor, employment, administrative and legislative law.
?We are very grateful to Jim and Joan and to Doug and Mary,? Robert Coombe, chancellor of the University of Denver, said in a news release. ?They are all very close members of the University Community, all truly dedicated to the continued growth of quality at the Sturm College. This is a wonderful gift.?
Facets of the law school?s commitment to experiential learning will include more opportunities in the legal clinics, where students practice as lawyers in real cases, in real courtrooms, guided by professors. Students will also engage in more simulations and externships, honing them for the practice of law.
Mulligan is a real estate attorney and partner in the Denver office of Snell Wilmer LLP. Burleson has worked in commercial and bankruptcy law as a partner with Denver law firms and in-house positions with national companies.
