Self esteem: in the round?

25% of women in the UK are classified as being obese. A figure which has startled me since I read it last December. Surely we can?t claim we didn?t know the processed and manufactured food and drink we?ve been gaily stuffing down ourselves since the 70?s was loaded with sugar, salt and fat? Can we?

Well to be honest we probably could until about five years ago for most of us and ten years for the enlightened. All that has well and truly changed. There are more programmes on TV which highlight the true content of food and drink than ever before. There are also programmes which graphically highlight the progression from needing to lose a kilo here and there, to needing to lose tens of kilos of weight.

The problem is that if we have an issue with food whether it be chocolate, cheese, bread, pasta, fizzy drinks, we conveniently choose to change channels, or deny that the information being given to us is applicable because we?re either not that fat or that person had super powers to lose as much weight as they did unlike the mere mortal sitting on the sofa contemplating the next snack.

We switch off from hearing about the risks of heart disease, diabetes, cancer (breast, colon, reproductive, kidney, pancreas, oesophagus). After all it won?t happen to me ? will it?

Ask yourself, are you worth feeling great about yourself and how you look, are you worth helping your body to stay fit and healthy?

If the answer is yes then FANTASTIC get up and do something about it. If you need support and encouragement go and get it, put reminders up of why you want to change in case you have a wobbly moment. As you start losing weight you will feel better about yourself, even if you didn?t think you needed to.

If there was a voice no matter how small that said ?NO? then this is the place to start. Our self esteem affects all aspects of our lives, our choices our behaviours. We eat because we need cheering up, after the day you?ve had you need a treat, don?t you? We eat because we?re happy, go on let?s celebrate with some cakes in the office. Sound familiar?

No food or drink will help you improve your self esteem. In fact if you gain a dress size or two it can make it worse. Go and get some help from a life coach or counsellor. I can hear you saying ?that I would say that?. Well possibly I would but let?s face it, if you could crack this one on your own you would probably have done it by now.

Work on your self esteem for yourself, I can guarantee you will feel better about yourself and who you are, and possibly the world around you will seem a much brighter place. One positive side effect could be your choice to respect yourself, look at yourself holistically, eat and drink healthily and do suitable levels of exercise. So that next time you ask your self if you?re worth it?. a very beautiful YES will come screaming back!
