Tiger Street Football: Champions of Cambodia
Goal.com caught up with Street Madness, the Dutch team that emerged as champions in the Cambodia leg of the tournament
The Dutch combo "Street Madness" won the first leg of the Tiger Street Football Tournament 2013 in Cambodia.
It is their second victory out of as many participations, as they came out triumphant of last year's competition in Kuala Lumpur.
Ismael Hamadaoui, likely the best player of the tournament, spoke to Goal.com after the victory, and told us a bit about about his team.
"We are professional futsal players in Holland, actually the mix of two teams based in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
"We get together to play street football.
"We don't have a chance to, practice as we live in different cities, so the first games in this tournament were tough, we lost one in the qualifying group, actually," Hamadaoui said.
The Dutchman was delighted at the result of the final: "The crowd here in Phnom Penh was awesome, and it was fantastic to play the final against a local team."
Street Madness defeated the local outsiders Green Youth 3-1 in a well-fought match.
"The Cambodian team played a very intense game, they were very physical, we were really surprised," continued the Dutch playmaker.
"We needed to come together as a team, and we did.
"I think we played smart and we deserved it.
"I am very grateful to my team-mates, I love them!"
Hamadaoui concluded: "I am very grateful also to Tiger Beer and to Cambodia for having us.
"Unfortunately we haven't got much time to hang around Phnom Penh, but this has been a great experience for us."
A phenomenon in their country and abroad, thanks also to their clips on YouTube, Street Madness hope their tight schedule will allow them to be featured again in Tiger Street Football events in 2013.
