Discipline In Goal Setting - Self Improvement Blog : Self ...

Discipline-(per Websters) training that corrects, molds, or perfects; control gained by obedience or training.

Discipline means sticking to your action plan no matter what. It means you don?t get sidetracked by watching TV or going out with your friends when you should be working on your plan. It means that nothing comes between you and the things you need to do to reach your goals. For example, my goal for today was to get up at 5:30am and go to the gym. Today is leg day, usually one of my toughest workout days. It would have been so easy to turn off the alarm, get back in bed and sleep for another hour. It?s so easy to tell myself that skipping one workout won?t hurt, after all, I can make it up tomorrow. However, before you know it, one missed workout turns to two, and then three and so on. It is so vitally important that you keep your long term in sight. you cannot achieve the results that you want by skipping workouts. Self-discipline involves what needs to be done rather than what you would like to do. Self-discipline is the key to achieving your desired goals. You have to take responsibility for yourself and your results. No one else cares about your goals as much as you do. They are your goals and it is up to you do what it takes to reach them. The more control you have over your life, the more control you have over your success and happiness. You are the only one that can change your life.

If you have things that you want to accomplish it is up to you and you alone to do the things necessary to accomplish those things. Having self-discipline is the one thing that you must have to achieve anything. The good news is if you feel you don?t have self-discipline now, you can start immediately to change that. Just have the self-discipline to say ?I am going to change? and do it! There are a few guidelines that you can follow to help you improve on your self-discipline:

A. Take responsibility for yourself.

You alone are responsible for what happens in your life and what you achieve. You have to make decisions that propel you to what you want your life to be. Do you choose to work on your goal for the next hour or do you choose to watch television? It is up to you!

B. Don?t wait. Get started today. By putting it off, you are procrastinating and procrastination is a sign of poor self-discipline. If your goal is something that you want badly enough, why would you want to wait?

C. Practice good habits. Developing control over your day-to-day life is the first step in learning that you can control your success and happiness. Habits can be either good or bad. They can make you are break you. You have to decide which habits that you have are keeping you from achieving what you want and it is up to you to break them. Remember A above, you must take responsibility for yourself.

D. Focus on your rewards. What positive results will you see from your efforts. How will your life be improved? Visualize the rewards of your success as clearly as you can. Picture in your mind how much better your life will be when you achieve your target.
